Walking Home with You Anime Sets April 2027 Premiere

Mai Matsuda’s school romance turns the walk home into a club activity, and you can already read it in English.

Walking Home with You, known in Japan as Hokago Kitaku Biyori (放課後帰宅びより), will begin airing on Nippon TV in April 2027. The latest announcement also brings a teaser visual and a celebratory illustration from manga creator Mai Matsuda.

The new visual shows Naoki waiting at the school gate, which is fitting for a romance built around spending a little more time together after class. Cast, animation studio and international streaming details weren’t included in the announcement.

The story follows Shun, a first-year high school student whose soccer ambitions ended with an injury. He’s still being pestered to join sports clubs when an offhand remark about wanting to go home catches the attention of Naoki, a student one year above him.

She recruits him into her unofficial going-home club. English publisher Omoi calls it the “Hyper-Epic Heading Home Club,” which is quite a name for an activity most of us managed without signing up for anything.

Of course, Naoki has a more adventurous idea of what going home involves. Detours and little discoveries turn their afternoons into something Shun starts looking forward to.

I’m already interested in that setup. There’s plenty of room for a romance in the small decision to take the longer route because you’re enjoying someone’s company.

Matsuda, who also created Hikaru in the Light!, draws the manga for Futabasha’s Manga Action and Web Action. Its seventh Japanese volume releases on October 8.
